Swazi Sharma, a Medical Science graduate from Macquarie University and a third-year medical student at the University of Notre Dame, is dedicated to addressing healthcare disparities in regional areas. Coming from a rural background, Swazi’s passion for rural health is evident in her research project, which focuses on differences in health outcomes between individuals attending face-to-face versus virtual consultations prior to bariatric surgery at the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) Metabolic Obesity Service (MOS) – the first regional public surgical obesity service in NSW.
